So work has gotten the better of part of my time lately. The bills are paid, but the blog has suffered. Sort of. While I haven't been consuming, digesting, and regurgitating nearly as much information as I'm used to, I have been busy with a hammer so to speak. I've reconfigured the navigation slightly with some shiny jQuery, and I've jumped head first into Google Code.
I'm pretty happy with the results so far, which is of course a very rough work in progress...as always. Now, after a few Sundays worth of reading and tagging my old posts and manipulating Google's Ajax Feed API to work nicely with Blogger labels, I've managed to cobble together a real live tag cloud; color-coded and sorted even.
Sure it's a nifty bit of code, but what I'm really happy about is the hard earned functionality of it all. Having to go back to re-read and tag all my posts from the past few years was an experience in itself, but to have all of those posts parsed and sorted in the cloud is like holding a funhouse mirror up to rapid dissent for the first time. I haven't quite wrapped my brain around what that collection of topics and labels say about this blog, but my first impression is to feel disappointment at the limited scope of this space so far.
It's a little late in the year for resolutions, and I was never good at keeping those anyway, so I'll just call it a day and do my best to start letting this blog be a little bit more reflective of what I believe it is. Until then, rock out with the Flobots, and fight with tools!

uicksilver workshop

this song is a great example of the power of the media... kids are given more and more power in our new society, you can't educate them correctly and it can be a threat to the nation or the world.
There was a great illustration for this matter "http://digg.com/people/A_CRAZY_black_kid_s_plan_to_kill_the_president?t=14575346"
but it has been very very quickly taken over by censure.... the title says it all anyways but i'm still amazed by the fast answer on that matter.
that video was removed from the network.
I guess have the freedom of expression is "virtual".
This will all lead to a social revolution like it was in 1968 in France.
we have to hit bottom first... how long will it take?????
Ah...B3G, thanks as always for commenting.
I find the song an angry warning. Our children are our future, and they will exist in the world we leave for them. It's at once sad and hopeful.
And you're right, the media is a huge part of that. Have you heard the Tim Robbin's speech at the National Association of Broadcasters?
As for the threats of presidential assassination (why does everyone have to mention this on my blog?!), you have to keep things in perspective: Our nation is less than 250 years old, and we have lost 4 Commanders-In-Chief to domestic assassination. It's no wonder that the authorities are quick to move when these things pop up. Especially when the President's approval rate is at historic lows.
It's an accepted piece of American society that we are all free to express whatever we like, whenever we like, to whomever we like so long as it does not break this one simple rule: We do not threaten the President. Ever.
Of course Jefferson had his own ideas about about that too. According to him, there are circumstances in which these things are perfectly reasonable to discuss...even openly so. And who am I to say different?
the "president matters" is definatly out of place... what is worng is the fact that a 8 or 10 years old already comes up with stupid idea like this... even worse... he probably thought that he might succeed, everything in the video was wrong, we are in civilize country we can fight with the law... as you said everybody has a freedom of opinion, but there is a big gap between opinion and action...
saying that you would kill someone is consider a threat and cannot be taken lightly.
i just mentioned how efficient it was to get that video down in a short time, being from "somewhere else" i was just impressed.
lets enjoy a this breaking new:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/us-and-iran-holding-secret-talks-on-nuclear-programme-808647.html
as well as the fact that nasa plans a 6 month mission on the moon? running out of "space" on earth or needing an escape solution for the future :)
on this positive note let's all enjoy our days, and turn off the tv and try to all come up with an idea on our own....no mass media pollution interfering with your brain.
Escape solution for the future indeed. This planet is not going to last long the way we take care of it. The trash solution is not getting any better and freakier weather patterns are only going to get worse and worse. Its only a matter of time (time being well past our deaths) before this earth starts seeing failure. But thats my opinion. So I guess checking out other sutiable areas of life is not such a bad thing.
Anyways thats my feeling on that.
